Greetings from the Watertown Highway Department

Our spring sweeping program this year is as follows:

We will be begin our sweeping program by sweeping/clearing off the snow shelves this week. These are located at Echo Lake Road across from Burton Street down to Porter Street, Woolson Street near the intersection with Route 63, Nova Scotia Hill across from Beach Avenue down to Route 6, Hemingway Park Road near Main Street and Main Street in front of St. John’s School.

Monday we will start sweeping the schools and municipal buildings and parking lots.

Following completion of those areas, we will begin sweeping the 37 miles of sidewalks in town. The sidewalks will be swept off onto the roads and the street sweeper will immediately pick up the debris from the sidewalks on those roads only. This should take approximately 2 weeks depending on the weather.

Once the snow shelves and sidewalks are cleaned, we will start sweeping all 140 miles of town maintained roads. The Watertown Highway Department no longer uses any sand for our winter operations, so clean-up should go fairly quickly. We will not be publishing sweeping schedules or setting a schedule as we will be moving swiftly and expect to finish quicker than in past years.

Please take the time over the next few weeks to rake out or blow off any debris or material deposited onto lawns or areas within the town right away and along the sides of the roads that have accumulated over the winter due to snow plow operations.

Following the street sweeping program will start our catch basin cleaning program with our Vac Truck to remove the material caught in the storm drainage system.
